Electra Daughter Tops Weim-Sharr Dis BY JOYCE BUPP York County Correspondent NEW OXFORD - A stylish bred heifer topped the Weim-Sharr dispersal sale April 10, with buyer Rodney Greist placing the winning bid on the catalog headliner. Weim-Sharr-J Electra Delight sold for $4,500 to the Coatesville purchaser, after a round of spirited bidding interest from the crowd which turned out on one of Spring’s most perfect afternoons. It was a total herd dispersal for the dairy farm owned by Richard and Daniel Shanrer, with Stanley Weimer the farm manager, and son Thomas Weimer handling the herdsman reponsibiUties. Sired by Thonyma Electra, Delight is from the Weimer herd’s prized Daisy family, and due in August to Tri-Town Steady Spipper. Her dam is Weim-Sharr- McEl Daisy Doll-ET, scored VG-88 as a 3-year-old, and nominated Junior All-American Senior 2-year old in 1984. In her first lactation of 365 days, beginning at 2 years, 6 months, Doll produced 25,202 pounds of milk, with 3.9 percent and 987 pounds of fat, and 3.4 percent and 866 pounds of protein. The Daisy offspring was the largest family group of the sale, with eight direct descendants of this brood cow put on the block. “The best heifer we had on the farm,” she was described from the auction box by son Mike Weimer, a partner in the Backus Sales firm which co-managed the Weim- Sharr dispersal with the Penn sylvania Holstein Association. Second high seller of the day was an unscored two-year-old by Glenafton Enhancer. Weim-Sharr Enhancer Winny went to Stephen Hershey of Mt. Joy for a final bid of $3,100. Fresh in December, she milked 67 pounds of 4.4 percent milk on her latest DHIA test. Winny’s dam is Weim-Sharr- Molly C Windy, a Molly Chief, and her granddam was a Conductor. Two young homebreds each commanded bids of $2,600, to tie for the third high selling spot in the sale list. Scored GP-81 as a 2-year-old, she sold newly-bred to Steady, still milking 94.5 pounds at test. Her dam is the EX-91-3E Mel-Aire Promis Star, sired by Black Star, and with lifetime records of 190,205 pounds of milk and 6,949 pounds of fat. Weim-Sharr Conductor Gail, GP -83, went to Robert Hoffman of York Springs. As a 2-year-old, she completed a first 365-day lactation of 22,690 pounds of milk and 610 pounds of fat. Her VG-85 dam is Tyrone-M Astro Girl, with records over 21,000 and lifetime production over 100,000 pounds of milk. Average for the 90 head, not including small calves, also sold, was $1,265. Several show-age heifer calves commanded prices upwards of $l,OOO, encouraged by the Weimer’s offer to allow a $5O credit per person to 4-H and FFA buyers.
