A22-Lancast«r Farming, Saturday, July 19,1986 Farmer-Business Picnic Set The annual Farmers’- Businessmen’s Picnic is scheduled for Tuesday, July 29, on the Her man Panacek Sycamore Lane Farm, near Quakertown. The event is a highlight of the year for the Hunterdon County Board of Agriculture. It’s become tradition in Hun terdon, dating back to the 1930’5. The site of the affair is most generally a farm, but has also been held at various non-farm location through the years. “AM systems are ‘go’ for a successful picnic this year,” reports August Knispel, Franklin Township dairy farmer and chairman of the committee planning the event. “We have an excellent location, a delicious picnic supper, and a top-flight speaker.” The host farm this year is a nursery and grain farm. In ad dition to shrubs of all kinds, there are many species and varieties of trees under cultivation. There are a number of soil and water con servation practices in place. The nursery is equipped with a modern, extensive irrigation system. This operation is state of the art. Wagons woth knowledgeable tour guides will trasnport people 'over tiie farm lanes to observe the nursery plantings and the grain fields. There are a number of beef cattle on the farm, and to sup plement these, other animals, including horses, will be brought in for the occasion. A number of IRRIFRANCE... Immediately following supper the group will be entertained by humorist-speaker, Charles Ahl of Elmer in South Jersey. He is an excellent story-teller and will have a message to share, as well. Greetings from Pat & Herman Panacek, hosts, Dick Gulhck, County Board Presidnet, will round out the evening. Oh yes, as always, there will be a variety of door prizes, many of them products if Hunterdon agriculture. Originally, the farmers’- businessmen's picnic was just that. Farmers brought their businessmen friends for an evening of fellowship, good food, and an exposure to the farm. August Knispel and his com mittee in planning the event keep this very much in mind.
