BOYERTOWN - The Boyertown Area Historical Society will host its 12th annual quilt show May 3 and 4 at the Society building in Boyer town. The display, which contains over 100 quilts, has attracted visitors from surrounding states in other years. The exhibit includes 19th and 20th century quilts, most of which were made in southeastern Pennsylvania. The antique textiles reveal the talent and love of color possessed by women of past generations, while the contemporary quilts and wall hangings reflect the abilities and artistry of today’s fabric ar tists. He has attended officer’s training, regional demonstration contest, teen leader retreat and fashion revue. He has also participated in State Achievment Days, Leadership Forum and Ag Progress Days presentations. He was a delegate to National 4-H Club Congress in 1984. Reyburn is a senior at State College Area High School and plans to attend Penn State in the fall. • Barbara Shaffer of Hooversville has been a 4-H leader in Somerset County for 11 years. She has helped with many county events, in cluding coimty fairs, exchange trips, cookbook and cookie sales and the junior livestock sale. She also served on Somerset County’s Executive Committee. Katie Reifsnyder quilted the piece. Another highlight of the show will be an exhibit of “pieced pic ture” quilts and wall hangings. “Pieced picture” refers to any patchwork design that represents a visually tangible object, such as a schoolhouse, sailboat, North Carolina lily or pine tree. This type of patchwork, popular years ago, is still quite-popular today. The show will also include a teddy bear exhibit. As a 4-H agent, she is responsible for coordinating 4-H youth programs and 4-H adult volunteer leaders. • David Antram of Somerset is the 18-year-old son of Robert and Roberta Antram. He has been a 4- H member in Somerset County for 10 years and has completed projects in automotive, sheep, strawberries and petroleum power. A member of Steaks and Chops 4-H Club, Antram has held the offices of vice president, news reporter and club photographer. Antram is the co-chairman of the KISS committee, the county’s award-winning safety program. He participated in Leadership School, Capital Days and the 1984- 85 interstate exchange to lowa. He attended national 4-H Club Congress as a delegate in 1984. Antram is a senior at Somerset Area High School and plans to study history at Penn State University. mean vice! event, Nancy Roan, co-chairman of the 1984 Goschenhoppen Historians’ Quilt Show and co author of “Just a Quilt,” will lecture on regional Pennsylvania German quilts and quilting traditions on Saturday, May 3 at 10 a.m. at the Good Shepherd United Church of Christ in Boyertown. Using slides and textiles to illustrate her presentation, Mrs Quilt Show speaker Nancy Roan and her son, Matthew, display a variation of Peakiomien Valley quilt for an "audience” of teddy bears. Roan will examine past quilting practices that were prevalent in lower Berks and Montgomery Counties. A workshop on the strip piecing method of quilt construction will be held May 3 at 1:30 p.m. at the Good Shepherd Church. Participants must bring a large roll of scotch tape, scissors to cut paper, ruler and pencil. Workshop cost is $6.
