The field corn program will start in late March with a soil insect survey and continue on a weekly basis through August. Participating growers will receive weekly reports on insect ac tivity, week breaks and disease infestations. In addition, plant population counts and weed mapping will be done at appropriate times. The cost of participating is $2 per acre for the pest management program s 3 per acre if soil and leaf tissue samples are also taken. As soon as alfalfa plants become active, stand counts will be taken; subsequent counts will be taken throughout the season. From April through September every field in the program will be visited once a week by a scout. Particpating growers will receive regular reports on in sect, disease and weed infestation levels, plant stand counts, fertility problems and cutting schedules for use in making timely management decisions. Cost of participating in the alfalfa program is |3 an acre. The deadline for registering acreage is January 30.
