A42-Lm caster Farming, Saturday, February 15,1986 MEADVILLE - Sixteen Crawford County dairy farmers, enrolled in the Pennsylvania Dairy Herd Improvement Association, were recently recognized for outstanding production achievements at the Annual Meeting and Banquet held at the Saegertown American Legion. Queens Manor Holsteins, Ed Doeberiener & Sons, Jamestown, for the seventh straight year, led the county in butterfat production for fewer than 50 cows. Their 21 cows average production per cow for the year was 21,816 lbs. of milk, 818 lbs. of butterfat and 693 lbs. of protein. For their achievement they received one of two 800 lbs. and over fat production ribbons, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Dairymen’s Association, and two plaques. In addition, Queens Manor Holsteins was recognized for the high cow in fat and ■ protein production. The cow was a Registered Holstein named Sun, produced 31,389 lbs. of milk, testing 4.2% fat with 1,303 lbs. of fat, 3.3% protein producing, 1,033 lbs. protein in 305 days, sponsored by Westford Milling. Jeffrey Raney, R.D. 1, Adam sville, was recognized for the high herd in butterfat and protein production for fewer than 50 cows. Raney’s Registered Holstein herd averaged 42.3 cows, 21,949 lbs. of milk, 800 lbs. of fat and 708 lbs. of protein per cow. In addition, he received the second 800 lbs. and over fat production ribbon spon sored by the Pennsylvania Dairymen’s Association. Raney also received a plaque for ex ceptional production. Black Pond Farms, owned by Charles & William Black, R.D. 2, Saegertown, and Ron Vanderhoof, herdsman, received two plaques. The first for high herd in milk production more than 50 cows, and the second plaque was for ex ceptional production. Their 91.9 cows average production was 21,398 lbs. of milk, 752 lbs. of fat and 674 lbs. of protein per cow. The herd of Helen Raymond Anthony, Meadville, was one of Crawford County holds DHIA awards banquet seven herds recognized for over 700 lbs. of fat production. They received a plaque for the high herd in fat and protein production for more than 50 cows. Their cows average production for the 1985 testing year for 72.5 cows was 21,308 lbs. of milk, 797 lbs. of fat and 687 lbs. of protein per cow. David R. Reusing, Meadville, Pa., was recognzied for the herd with the greatest gain in milk, fat and protein production, milking three times a day, from the 1984 to the 1985 testing year. Reusing gained 3,038 lbs. of milk, 132 lbs. of fat and 97 lbs. of protein per cow over 1984. Rolling Acres Farm-Leon and Donald Sweatmen, Vanenago, Pa., had the greatest gain in milk, fat and protein, milking two times per day, over 1984. Their cows gained an average of 2,916 lbs. of milk, 104 lbs. of fat and 63 lbs. of protein per cow in 1984. Their award was sponsored by the Meadville Farm Credit Service. H & S Dairy Farm, Daniel Householder and Randy Stevenson were recognized for the herd with the lowest somatic cell count which averaged 109,000 count for the year. Richard Lyons, Cochranton, had the highest producing Ayrshire cow on the test in Crawford County for the 1985 testing year. A registered Ayrshire cow named Dolly produced 18,027 lbs. of milk, testing 4.2% fat, producing 749 lbs. of fat and testing 3.4% protein producing 608 lbs. of protein. Lyons was also recognized for ex ceptional production with his Holstein herd of 19.3 cows that averaged 20,766 lbs. of milk, 728 lbs. of fat and 644 lbs. of protein per cow. Caßosa Guernseys-Bernard and Dave Wagner, Meadville, had the highest producing Guernsey cow. She was registered No. 230, producing 22,628 lbs. of milk, testing 4.9% fat, producing 1,100 lbs. of fat and testing 3.3% protein, producing 754 lbs. of protein in 305 days. Also, their Holstein herd operating under the name of Wagnercrest Farms had the high producing Holstein for the breed. Registered Holstein cow #250, produced 31,838 lbs. of milk, testing 3.8% fat and producing 1,197 lbs. of fat and testing 2.8% protein, producing 893 lbs. of protein in 305 days production. Spruce Row Farms, Janet & Jeff Peters, Meadville, Pa., Registered Jersey cow named Lilly, was recognized for the highest producing cow for the breed. She produced 18,622 lbs. of milk testing, 5.4% fat, producing 1,009 Ibs.of fat and testing 4.2% protein, producing 783 lbs. of protein in 305 days. Byler Brothers Farm, David & Ron Byler, Spartansburg, were recognized for having the highest producing Brown Swiss cow on test. Richard Black and family, Saegertown, Dick By ham, herd sman, were recognized for ex ceptional production with his registered Holstein herd.
