EVERHART KUTZTOWN - Rocky-Side Farms of Elverson, Chester County, and Rothrock Golden Holstein Farms of Kempton, Berks County, walked away with top awards Saturday in the Eastern Pennsylvania Championship Holstein Show at the Kutztown Fairgrounds. The Rocky-Side entries earned Jefferson and Carl Yoder the Premier Breeder, Premier Exhibitor and Reserve Grand Champion honors, losing only the Grand Champion ribbon to Rothrock’s Swampy Hollow Apollo Starlet. The Rothrock six-year-old also earned best udder and senior champion awards on her way to the top. Judge Creedin Comman of Carlisle described the winner as a “tremendous cow, well balanced, and with a tremendous frame.” Sired by Hilltop Apollo Ivanhoe, the grand champion cow’s dam was Swampy-Hollow J Sweet Sid. She was bred by Swampy-Hollow Farm. Yoder, who served as chairman of the show, saw his cows place among the top three finishers in six classes, senior 2-year-old, 3-year old, 4-year-old, 5-year-old, 6-year old and 100,000-pound production. It was Rocky-Side Chairman Dean, winner of the 3-year-old class, that brought the Yoders the Reserve Senior and Reserve Grand Championship awards. The cow was sired by Cal-Clark Board Chairman and her dam was Rocky-Side Stan Sparky. The Junior Championship was won by Kerchenhill Field Sabrina, owned by Kerchenhill Holsteins of Kutztown. Reserve Junior Champion was Walk-up Elevation Luscious, owned by Rothrock Golden Holsteins. After the show, Coraman said he thought many of the 163 animals entered in the show would do well in further competition. “There were a lot of good-quality cattle here today,” Comman said. “They should do very well in state competition.” Maple Grove Valiant Melane, owned by Patricia Miller of Nazareth, was the Grand Cham pion in the Youth Division show, also winning the Senior Cham' pionship and the three-year-old Youth ribbon. Sired by S-W-D Valiant, the Youth Division winner’s dam was M-Maplegrove Elevation Myrtle. Reserve champion in the youth show was Reu-Hel Sexy Smurfette, owned by Scott A. Troutman of Mohrsville. .
