A tire swing provides hours of entertainment for Michael Conrad and his New York City friend Dennis Torres. The two 11-year-olds find many ways to pass the summer days, from bicycle riding to playing with animals. and kittens The Conrads went a few years ago, and said they really enjoyed the opportunity. Designed to offer “fresh air” and a freer environment, the Fresh Air program is a look at families in a different setting. According to Kathryn, one of the best things for the children is the opportunity “to run and be outside, to go barefooted and to swim in a pond.” It is these simple pleasures which add up to a lifetime of memories for host families and visitors. MYERSTOWN - For the next four weeks Larissa L. Smith, 16, of Myerstown, will be a 4-H Am bassador to Japan as part of the International Four-H Youth Ex change program. The daughter of Lee and Mary Smith of Myerstown, she has been a member of the Myerstown 4-H Raiders Club for eight years. In addition to her club activities, she has participated - in 4-H Teen Council, 4-H Ambassador Club, consumerama team, public speaking and demonstrations. She and her family hosted an IF YE from the Netherlands for three weeks in the past. Bakker, state international program leader and 4-H youth specialist at the Pennsylvania State University. While in Japan she will visit with several families and attend a youth camp to learn about Japanese culture. Her 4-H project activities have included conservation of natural resources and wildlife, clothing construction and nutrition. In addition to her 4-H activities, Larissa is involved in school ac tivities at Elco High School, where she will be a senior in September. She has been co-editor of the yearbook, a member of the band, Japan and a member of the junior varsity basketball team. Following her return Aug. 10, she will be reporting her experiences and impressions to 4-H members in Lebanon Coiinty.
