Conservation planning with fanners and assisting farmers in applying conservation practices have been the main emphasis of the Soil Con servation Service during these 50 years. These activities began in Fannett and Metal Townships in 1943 and in the balance of the county in 1956. At present, about 1050 1 farmers and other landowners have requested conservation planning assistance on about 220,000 acres of land or about 45% of the county area. The total land that has a conservation plan developed for it is about 171,000 acres or 35% of the county. There is no charge to have a professional soil con servationist go over your land to see what conservation practices may be needed.
