After enjoying a covered dish meal, the 4-H’ers and their families were treated to a presentation by Lebanon County dairy princess Ellen Hanson, who talked about “Daisy The REAL Thing.” Later in the evening Nelson Bomgardner was recognized as the county’s Outstanding Dairy Judge. “Nelson did really quite well all season long,” extension 4-H agent Ken Winebark said. 4-H‘ers Krista Hetrick, Heather Hemley and Angela Bollinger were recognized for taking top placings in the County National Awards Program. Marcy Barnhart received the Susan Heilinger Werner Memorial Award, a cash award of $lOO and a certificate. Anndrea Fisher and Becky Sonnen, champion and reserve champion fitters at the fair, and Nelson Bomgardener and Kathy Mase, champion and reserve Hanson received plaques for their outstanding record books during the Lebanon County 4-H Dairy Banquet. Holiday Cookie Contest HARRISBURG - Your yuletide season’s finest Christinas cookies can be showcased in the “Great Holiday Cookie Contest,” scheduled for Nov. 26 and Nov. 29 in the Farm Show Complex. The contest, held in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Christmas Show, Nov. 26 through Dec. 2, is ' open to all Pennsylvania residents. According to entry rules, 12 cookies should be brought to the show on a disposable plate ac comanied by a three by five-inch card listing the name, address and phone number of the contestant, plus recipe ingredients. If af filiated with a group, please list the group name. Cookies are judged on ease of preparation, originality and taste. Prizes are as follows. For Monday, Nov. 26: $5O first; $3O second; and $2O third. The first prize recipient on Nov. 29 receives $4O; second prize $25; and $l5 third prize. Contestants should arrive at the show between 10 a.m. and noon. Judging begins at noon and win ners are announced at 3 p.m. The contest is co-sponsored by Mahoney and Mahoney, Inc., of Holmes, Pa. and the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. In addition to the contest, the Pennsylvania Christmas Show also features a host of holiday ac tivities, including construction of a life-size “Christmas Village” within the complex; entertainment by the Pennsylvania Youth Ballet and other organizations; and displays and sales of holiday gift champion showmen, were the Norlebco Club, and Karen recognized for their work.
