Each team shears a sheep, spins the wool mto yarn and weaves an 80 x 20-inch shawl within two and one half hours. However, the national “time to beat” was established in 1981 by the Niddy-Noddies of Lancaster County. Their record time was 63 minutes. More than 3,416 entries from 23 states competed for $85,000 in premiums in 1983. Males then are forced to disperse, but females are tolerated within their mother’s range to live and breed. Dr. Wonderful established a home range some 20 miles away.
