B32—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, August 4,1984 MEYERSDALE - A week of livestock competitiion, games, rides, entertainment and all around fun is scheduled for the Somerset County Fair on August 19 to 25. The festivities begin on Sunday at 10 a.m. with a horse show sponsored by the Somerset County 4-H Leaders Association. Flag raising ceremonies will officially open the Fair at 7:15 p.m., and the 1984 Fair Queen contest will begin at 8:30 p.m. Monday’s activities will feature light horse and pony judging, as ST. LOUIS, Mo. American Soybean Association (ASA) Chief Executive Officer Dr. Kenneth L. Bader announce a staff reorganization. The Soybean Association is a major farm commodity organization composed of 29,000 members in 26 affiliated state associations and receiving financial support from 419,000 farmers through 25 state soybean checkoff boards. “We routinely review our Farm operating loans funded WASHINGTON, D.C. An additional $250 million for farm operating loans is being made available im mediately by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farmers Home Administration, Secretary of Agriculture John R. Block said recently. The funds are being transferred from other loan programs where, it is anticipated they will not be needed in the remaining 12 weeks of the current fiscal year. “This move will help ensure that farmers’ needs for credit to finance this year’s production will be met,” Block said. “These funds are in addition to a record-high $1.91 billion already budgeted for operating loans this year for Farmers Home Administration.” Of the $250 million total, $l5O million in insured - or direct - loans is being moved from the single-family housing program, and $lOO million in loan guarantees is being moved from the business and industry loan guarantee program. Afternoon motorcycle drag racing will take place on Saturday with the Fullerton Destruction Derby, beginning at 7 p.m. and insuring that this year’s fair goes' out with a bang. Drake will continue to supervise ASA’s public, member and af filiated state relations programs as well as production of the “Soybean Digest” magazine. He also will assume responsibility for working with soybean farmers who establish ASA’s policies. Dennis Sharpe becomes Director of Corporate Relations and Economic Analysis. Sharpe, currently director of corporate relations, has been given the ad ditional responsibility for ASA’s economics staff. John Baize becomes Director of Washington Operations.
