Hobensack’s Sons Is Newer Ford Dealer Ford Motor Company has designed and built its own tractor engines since 1917 when the Company unveiled the Fordson - the world’s first mass-produced agricultural tractor. In 1952, Ford equipped its English-built all-purpose Fordson Major tractor series with a new Ford-designed engine - the first diesel ever used in a production Ford tractor. Ford Tractor Operations has produced more than four million diesel engines since 1952, and today manufactures durable and highly efficient three-, four- and six-cylinder powerplants used in Ford tractors sold by more than 5,000 dealer outlets in more than 130 countries. Ford introduced three- and four cylinder diesel engines for its North America built tractors in 1958. Subsequent additions to Ford’s diesel line included a high performance four-liter, six cylinder engine that was used in the largest and most powerful tractor built by Ford in 1961. In 1964, Ford became the first major manufacturer to offer a single “world” line of farm tractors. The new “world” trac tors were available with a new family of diesel engines produced by Ford at Basildon, England. Ford’s first over-100-horsepower six-cylinder diesel engine for tractors appeared in 1968, and a turbocharged version was in troduced the following year A decade later, a turbocharged six cylinder diesel with an intercooler to increase engine efficiency was introduced on Ford’s large TW-30 two-wheel-drive tractor.
