You can tell a child that milk comes from a cow, but seeing is believing. Nearly 2,000 children recently learned more about agriculture at the annual 4-H Sussex County Farm Tour. Handicapped youngsters, tots from daycare centers, and school children from all over the county converged on the Warrington farm in Georgetown for the event. The littlest practiced their “moo” sounds, while the older ones learned about dairy products and cuts of meat. As usual, the star attraction was the pony ride, an exciting first for many of the young visitors. 12 THEY ARI The horses, calves, and nanny goat didn’t seem to mind being petted 2,000 times. The pigs frolicked in their pen, the raccoon slept in its cage, and the crab and starfish crept about their shallow pool, oblivious of their wide-eyed audience. Sea creatures and raccoons may not be traditional farm animals, but nobody seemed to hold that against them. Extension 4-H agent Lloydlee Heite explained that the marine creatures were brought to the farm for the benefit of children who may not have an opportunity to see them at the seashore. He noted that 4-H offers youth lear ning projects in ecology and Celebrate Daily Month by this Write your farm’s name or your name in the open space on this milk truck, then color in the rest with bright crayons. * IWdllfS \ from farm fo family WITH SANITARY MILKING MACHINES rVETCmNAIIIANS CHECK ] I S| ) EACH COW S HEALTH REGULARLY | (L □( 4 CHILLED MILK IS CHECKED ANO SAMPLED BEFORE IT IS PUMPED FROM THE FARM TANK INTO THE REFRIGERATED STAINLESS STEEL TANK IN THE MILK PICKUP TRUCK MILK m i 6 EACH TANK TRUCK RUSHES COLD MILK FROM SEVERAL FARMS TO DAIRY PLANTS m Wellsville Boots and Saddles Club The Wellsville Boots and Saddles 4-H Club will hold their annual Open Spring Horse Show on June 2 at 9 a.m. The show will be held at the Frontier Days’ ring in Wellsville,Pa. marine studies as well as agriculture.
