HARRISBURG - 4-H and FFA dairy judging teams from Penn sylvania showed a great deal of "bovine savvy” in taking top honors Monday in the Penn sylvania All-American Invitational Youth Dairy Cattle Judging Contest. Members of the 4-H team, who hail from Hamburg, Berks County, amassed a total of 1748 points, out of a possible 1950 points to out distance a second place Maryland team which compiled a score of 1699. A total of IS teams, including SAWDUST DAYS! Oct. 6,7, 8 Pa. youth top All-American Dairy Judging contest representatives from as far away as Wisconsin and Tennessee, matched dairy wits. Members of the Pennsylvania team include; Patti Dreisbach, Charles Seidel, Todd Miller and alternate Harold Dreisbach. Todd Miller finished third in individual judging with a total of 588 points; Charles Seidel fifth with 583; and Patti Dreisbach seventh with 577 points. David Bitler is the team coach. It was Pennsylvania and Maryland finishing one, two in FFA competition as well. The Pennsylvania team edged the Maryland contingent 13751 to 1367 for top honors. The eight teams participating in this portion of the contest were aiming for a top score of 1650. Members of the winning team included Tracy Snyder of Pitman, Schuylkill County; Mark Welk of Peach Bottom, York County; Bill Neal of Roanng Branch, Lycoming County; and alternate Jill Kutz of Tunkhannock. Wyoming County. Mark Welk finished third in in dividual judging with 478 points Youth from across the state tested their judging skills Tuesday in the Ninth Pennsylvania 4-H and FFA Dairy Judging Forum. and first with a total of 50 points in the individual judging for total reasons, while Bill Neal finished fifth in individual judging for all breeds with 463 points. Arba L Henry is the team coach In the intercollegiate division, the team representing Penn sylvania State University finished eighth in a field of 24 major agricultural colleges and universities from throughout the United States entering teams in the competition. The three-member team entered by Ohio State University took top honors, scoring 2029 points out of a possible 2250.
