BY JOYCE BUPP Staff Correspondent YORK If you have a hankering to win a lop showring award for how you handle an animal, "better learn to key one eye on the judge and one eye on your heifer”. That’s the advice tendered by ten-year-old Jenelle Boyer, whose apt handling of a heifer far taller than the youngster won the Junior division showmanship award at the York 4-H Dairy Roundup on Wednesday. Jenelle is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Thomas Boyer, Bieseckerßoad. Veteran winner of showing competition; Jana Beth Fantom, earned top honors in the in termediate exhibition showmanship class. A 4-H dairy member for seven years, she adds advice to, "keep the animal calm and make sure the feet are in the proper place at all tunes. ’ ’ Jana Beth, is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Donald Fantom, Delta, Rl. Senior winner Mike Welsh claimed his first showmanship award in his seven years of 4-H dairy exhibiting; then topped that by taking his age group honors in fitting also. Mike, age 15, is the son of Mr. & Mrs. James Welsh, East Berlin, Kl. Angie Shoemaker placed first in the intermediate fitting com petition for her first tune in three years of exhibiting. The twelve year-old is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Leonard Shoemaker, Dover R 2. Rookie, Kim McCleary, making her debut on the tanbark, out-fitter all other contenders for the top spot, earning her praise from judge Ruth Ann Johns, Cham bersburg. The fitting and showmanship run-offs wrapped up a day-long roundup of dairy entries in the Four York 4-H dairy exhibitors won the coveted Grand Champion rosettes in their breed categories.
