BY JOYCE BUPP Staff Correspondent YORK Guernseys were the fust breed to circle the show ring during the annual York 4-H Fair Dairy Roundup, held July 29 at the York fairgrounds. Dale Olver, progeny analyst for Atlantic Breeders Cooperative, made the type selections, while fitting showmanship judging was by Peter Witmer, Lancaster County Guernsey breeder. For Guernsey exhibitor Todd Rutter, York, the show was a re run of the 1981 competition, with' his four-year-old by Penn Del Maverick Nelson claiming the purple grand and senior champion rosettes. Running close behind in the reserve senior and grand spot was his brother Chad, with a two year-old by Rutter Bros. Laddies Superior. In the junior champion runoff, Chad claimed the championship with bis stylish senior call, topping the reserve junior champion, a junior calf exhibited by Matt Kessler. Other first place winners In the Guernsey division included Darryl' Rohrbaugh’s senior yearling and Barry • Lehman’s three-year-old and five-year-old cow entries. Scott Cooper, Delta, took top honors in the Ayrshire division, Top exhibitors in the Jersey 4-H Roundup show went to Mike Welsh for his aged cow entry. Wayne Stough, Jr., Spring Grove, took supreme heifer champion honors with his Angus entry at the York 4-H Fair beef show iast Saturday while supreme steer honors went to the Angus exhibited by Susan Eisenhour, WellsviUe. Jay Stough, Spring Grove, won reserve supereme steer champion rosette with his Simmental entry. Selection of the supreme champions topped the heifer and steer shows that wrapped up livestock competition at the annual 4-H exposition at the fairgrounds. Judge for the beef show was Bill Fairbairn of West Chester. Susan Eisenhour took the Angus heifer championship in a family type runoff of first-place class winners Tammy Eisenhour, Sandra Eisenhour, and James Eisenhour, Wellsville. Charolais heifer honors went to John Eaton, Jr., Windsor. Siblings Kerri Kohr and Jamie Kohr were selected champion and reserve champion winners in the Chianina heifer competition, while Hereford honors went to champion York 4-H Fair tags colored breed champs with his senior and grand cham pion four-year-old sired by Joyce’s Samuel. Junior champion was a senior yearling, exhibited by Julie Lehman, York, topping the reserve junior yearling entry of Loretta Cooper, Delta. A three-year-old daughter of Top Acres Stretchy Cleve put Jana Beth Fanton, Delta, in the winner’s spot. Her senior and grand champion topped the reserve senior and grand entry four-year old shown by Mike Welsh, East Berlin. Welsh took the junior honors with his junior yearling heifer, over reserve heifer winner David Krone, Glen Rock, exhibiting a senior calf. Other first-place Brown Swiss, exhibitors were: Amy Fanton, Delta, intermediate calf; Lisa Kilgore, Airville, senior yearling; and Greg Fantom, Delta, five year-old cow. Three competitors in the Jersey division shared the spotlight. Senior and grand champion was the aged cow entry of Mike Welsh, East Berlin, while Sue Eisenhart’s junior calf was named reserve champion. Reserve senior champion honors went to a three year-old exhibited by Andrea Kauffman, Airville. John Hausner, Dover, and reserve winner Sonja Shearer, Ab bottstown. Wayne Stough, Jr., topped the Simmental heifer competition, over reserve winner brother Jay Stough. Other blue-ribbon Sim mental heifer entries were shown by Jimmy Townsend, Jenni Druck and Jessica Ferree. In the breed-and-owner heifer competition, Tim Kinsley topped Jimmy Townsend for the cham pionship. Susan Bisenhour’s champion Angus steer captured honors over reserve winner Tun Kinsley. Other first-place winners in the Angus steer classes were Bradley Trowbridge, and Sandra Eisenhour. Darby Smith, Red Lion, was named winner of the Charolais steer division over reserve winner John Myers, Dallastown. In the Chianina division, the champion steer rosette went to Allen Wemer, Hanover topping Jim Kohr, York. Hereford steer class cham pionship award went to Sonja Shearer, Abbottstown, over the Top awards in York 4-H Dairy Roundup champion, Chad with his reserve senior and Guernsey show went to. from left, Matt grand entry, and senior and grand champion Kessler, reserve junior champion, Lori Todd Rutter. Ken Sunday, York, took home the champion prizes for his Limousin entry, over John Hausner, Dover, who exhibited the reserve winner. In the Simmentai competition, Jay Stough, Spring Grove, won the judge’s champion nod over reserve winner Joe Druck, York. Championship honors in the crossbred division went to Eddie Livingston, Dover, placing over reserve winner Tom Carpenter, Stewartstown. Also earning a crossbred class blue ribbon was Bob Livingston Dover. In a showmanship competition, youth exhibitors were split into three age categories to test their exhibiting skills. Sue Eisenhour, Wellsville, won the junior category, while Krista Rankin topped the intermediate com petitors and senior winner was Tim Kinsley, York.
