Penn State ag society honors Lancaster men UNIVERSITY PARK - Gamma Sigma Delta, the honor society of agriculture, cited outstanding alumni, faculty, and students of the College of Agriculture at Penn State during a banquet here recently. Alumni honored for attainments and taken into membership were Roland P. Gehman of RI Stevens; James F. Pound of Brattleboro, VT.; and Harry F Roth of Lan disville. Roland Gehman, class of 1959 m agricultural engineering, is president of MGS, Inc., an engineering firm in Denver, Lancaster County. Gehman has served as chairman of the Penn sylvania Section of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers and chairman of the North Atlantic Region of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers He is currently on the Agricultural Advisory Council of the College of Agriculture. James Pound, class of 1950 in dairy science, is associated with the American Holstein Fnesian f Association. He was cited as being instrumental in strengthening and promoting the Holstein breed of dairy cattle nationally. His career has included service with the Cooperative Extension Service in Crawford and Blair counties. He became breed programs director following a merger with Southeastern Cooperative He has been a member of the sire evaluation and genetic im provement committee—and the research committee—of the National Association of Animal Breeders. Honored for exceptional research in the College of Agriculture was Jean-Marc Bollag, professor of soil microbiology. Bollag’s research interests are three-fold. He studies microbial transformation of pesticides and other synthesized chemicals not occurring naturally (zenobioticsj. Other work stresses the interactions of microorganisms and heavy metals.
