Approximately 180 people, in cluding members and their families, agribusiness personnel and guests attended the banquet. Charles is in a partnership with his father Abram Charles, farming 125 acres and operating a farrow-to finish operation with 135 hogs. They also have 100 beef cattle. Charles planted Pioneer 3184 with a total of 186.21 bushels per acre. Hen Barley of R 2 Lancaster. Barley runs a poultry and beef operation with 100,000 pullets and 160 cattle. Barley earned second place with two fields: Cargill 967 at 175.16 bushels per acres, and Cargill 924 at 174.25 b/a. Don Witmer of R 1 Washington Boro. Witrner’s operation consists of 100 steers; 280 acres, 27 of which are in tobacco; and 18,000 breeder pullets, twice a year. Witmer planted Pioneer 3184 also with a total of 174 b/a. Others recognized for their results in the contest were: Elias ,*> •* . < # calf; Lynn Grills, market lambs; Tom High, gilts; Jeff Martin and Dean Saylor, capons; Mike Gar man, steer; Steve Fox and Clair Weaver, feeder pigs. Service Citation Awards went to Brent Miller, of Stanford Seeds; Wes Stauffer Sales and Service; and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Durlach-Mt. Airy Fire Company. Greetings from the State FFA Association were extended by Jeff Stoltzfus, regional vice president. Approximately 3Q farmers participated in this corn contest with a total of 38 fields. Another special presentation, in the form of a $2O gift certificate, went to Jeff Hart who has been the Young Parmer’s advisor for the past two years. During the presentation, Charles announced that membership totals 100 members, up from 15 only two years ago.
