The closed season period is designed to protect wildlife during the critical nesting period. The only possible exceptions are in certain counties where petitions have been filed to permit fox and/or raccoon chasing with dogs, and m certain instances where field trials or dog training areas have been approved by the Game Commission. Also participating in the program were Lewis Jury, who extended greetings on behalf of the Manheim Central School District; and Mike Pflieger, who represented the Manheim FFA Chapter. Prior to the announcement of the chapter’s Outstanding Young Farmer honors, it was explained that the work of the selection committee was quite difficult due to the outstanding qualities and accomplishments of several candidates. For example, the major camdidates averaged some 11 years in their agricultural professions, farmed some 240 acres and averaged 130 bushels of com per acre. A brief slide presentation was shown of Kettering’s combined hog and steer operation.
