Hoffman receives home ec. scholarship UNIVERSITY PARK - Nina Hoffman, a senior at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, has received a $250 scholarship from the Lydia Tarrant Extension Homemakers Fund. This year’s contest was held October 31 at Colorado Springs, Colo., during the foriy-seventh annual convention of the NJHA. There were 15 state 4-H teams competing. . The team won by a comfortable margin, with two members finishing well ahead of the pack in the individual standings. The two high individuals were Bryan P. Swann, 15, of Newburg, who placed first, and Samuel J. Brown, 17, of Rising Sun, who was second. Cecelia M. Chandler, 16, of Hughesville placed tenth in the national contest. Ellen D. Brown, 18, of Rising Sun was the fourth member of the Maryland 4-H team. Another Maryland team of for mer 4-H contestants placed third in the open division of the NJHA judging contest, repeating last year’s accomplishment. Michael Ensor of Parkton and George S.W. Marvin of LaPlata. Marvin has been a state 4-H horticulture team coach every year since 1978. He is a volunteer 4-H leader. Ensor is a horticulture assistant for the Carroll County Extension service in Westminster. Maryland teams have finished fifth or better every year since 1970 in national youth horticulture 4-H judging contests. And they have won the national championship in 1972,1977,1979 and 1981.
