An average price of $5.91 per pound establishes a new record price for 4-H capons in Penn sylvania, according to John Schwartz, Adams Extension agent. Ronald Howell, York Springs, exhibited the Grand Champion Capon. The 10.25 pound capon was purchased by Adams County Sheriff Bernard Miller for $l2 per pound. Ronald is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Howell. The two reserve champion is were exhibited by M.H. The 10.25 pound capon exhibited by William, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Shelter, was purchased by Gettysburg National Bank for $7.25 per pound. Bream added that the profit received by these junior exec tuives from this 4-H Capon business is used as operating capital for next year’s 4-H capon project and saved to help meet future educational expenses. The members were judged on the Danish System by Penn State Buyers of the champion capons at the 1981 Myers, Oillsburg; Bernard Miller, Grand Adams County 4-H Capon Round-up are Champion for $l2 per pound, exhibited by Ron standing behind the winning 4-H members (left Howell, York Springs, and Fred Shultz, Get- I Beverage, purchased the Reserve Champion $7.25 per pound exhibited by William Shelter, for $9.50 per pound exhibited by Elizabeth Gettysburg. Members receiving blue merit ribbons for exhibiting superior quality capons were Ronald Howell, Elizabeth Myers, William Shelter, and Patrick McMaster. Darnel Mc- Master, Jenny Shetter, and Kenneth Shetter received red merit ribbons for exhibiting ex cellent quality capons. The Gettysburg National Bank also donated the two capons they purchased to Green Acres. Other buyers included Gerald Keller, Adams County National Bank, Glenn Herring, Dale Biesecker, John Schwartz, Carl Frantz, Larry Peters, John Bream, Jr., and Jim Herring.
