LANCASTER Winning fourth place in the nation, and the in dividual championship, were achievements of Penn State students competing in the National Intercollegiate Livestock Judging Contest held recently at. Louisville. Ky. The individual champion was Brenda A. Wemer of R 2, Hanover, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dale J. Werner. Mrs. Wemer is a junior majoring in animal production. The Penn State teAm ranked first in judging sheep, third in beef cattle, and 15th in swine. The top five teams nationally were Oklahoma State, lowa State, North Dakota State, Penn State and California State at Fresno. As national champion, Brenda Werner placed first in swine, first m giving oral reasons, sixth in beef cattle, and seventh in judging sheep. In addition to Ms. Werner, the team included the f ollowmg: Mary E. Streett of Box 52, New London, a junior in animal production. Mary is the daughter of Dr. C.' Spencer Streett. 'jty Penn State livestock team ranks 4th in nation placed seventh m judging beef cattle and tied for 10th in judging swine and m overall scoring. . Dale A. Rams of R 2, Mercer, a senior m animal production and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Austin C. Rains. Robert L. Hough of Star Route, Alexandria, a senior in animal production and the son of Mr. and Mrs. H.V. Hough. Lee J. Johnston of R 2, New Alexandria, a senior in animal production and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward H. Johnston. Erskme H. Cash, Penn State coach, spoke of Ms. Werner's first place win as “an amazing 954 points out of a possible 1,000.” She is a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society for scholarship and has a 3.5 overall average out of a possible 4.0 at Penn State. In 1978 Ms. Werner was high individual in 4-H Achievement Days at Penn State and went on to win third place in national 4-H achievement com petition. The assistant coach was Daniel Loy of Centre Hall, graduate assistant in animal industry.
