ASS—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, June 20,1951 Vicki Beshore new Cumberland County Princess NEWVILLE Under the warm and pleasant skies of Cumberland County on Wednesday evening Vicki Basehore was crowned the new dairy princess for Cum berland County. The pageant was held at Big Spring High School with organist Sharon Oiler and emcee Scott Sml*h providing entertainment. Each contestant delivered her presentation to a crowd of about 200 interested persons. Miss Basehore’s presentation was geared for high school students and adults and was entitled “How Do We Get Milk.” She explained how Bessie the cow ‘lets’ the fanner have her milk. He doesn’t take her precious supply. Another of the contestants in the pageant, Paula Hosfelt, presented a little girl telling her dad about a trip to a dairy. Cindy Witmer presented a gymnastic and dance routine for her presentation. After the skits, a group of musicians, “Chapter Seven” provided some hand-clapping country gospel music. The three contestants were then asked some questions about the dairy industry. Questions such aa what is pasteurization and 3.5 percent milk had them thinking The tense moments awaiting the judges decision were filled with even more anticipation as the drawing for door prizes was carried out. Cheese cutters, din ners at the Embers, and ice cream made everyone present hope their -name would be drawn. Vicki hopes to go mto farming with her father after she completes her schooling at Cumberland Valley High School. Vicki is a very active church member and is secretary of her high school FFA. Airy, Md., selling with a_ Linebacker heifer calf to Oak Ridge Farm, Emmitsburg, Md., who purchased a total of 15 lots.
