ClS—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, May 9,1981 4-H’ers join Capital Days activities LANCASTER - County 4-H members, who soon will have a voice in shaping Pennsylvania’s laws, met with area legislators and other government officials April 27 and 28 in Harrisburg to participate in State 4-H Capital Days ac tivities. Those participating from Lancaster County were Kay Dubler, Gretchen Doner, Pam Goss, Cindy Risser, Ed Howell and Jenny Phillips. In Harrisburg they joined with 4- H members from most Penn sylvania counties to learn more about the operations of state government and to discuss citizenship projects that will strengthen their 4-H program ming. “The county delegation received a guided tour of the State Capitol Building, met local legislators in their officers, and took part in educational workshops designed to increase their understanding of the legislative process,” says Ex tension agent Nancy Meyers. Saddle Cinches meet MANHEIM On Thursday, April 30, the Saddle Cinches 4-H held their second meeting for this year. Thirty-eight members at tended. Banquet speaker was Darvin Boyd, of Akron, Lancaster County, National 4-H alumni Recognition Award winner. A former out standing 4-H member, Boyd currently serves as vice president and director of the agri-finance department of the Hamilton Bank, Lancaster. Frank Bortz, 4-H youth program specialist at The Pennsylvania State University and program coordinator, points out that State 4- H Capital Days is a highlight of the 4-H citizenship program. Sessions were planned and conducted by 4-H members, volunteer 4-H leaders, and county Extension staff members. trips, money-raising events, a grooming workshop experience, and an overnight trail ride. The 4-H group had a hoagie sale from March 23 to May 2. Over 600 hoagies were sold. Top seller was Roger Brenneman who sold 101 hoagies.
