Sue Bomberger, Lori Reesor; Dairy Foods - RIGHT DIRECTION If you’re interested in higher prices, Order 2 producers certainly went in the right direction in Sep -tember. You cut production one per cent under August on a daily basis. You increased your Class I sales over 10 per cent to give you a Class I utilization of 47.8 per cent - the best so far this year. Children going back to school in the Fall always boost fluid sales in Sep tember over August. But you even did much better than last September by 19 million pounds in spite of producing the most milk for September since You shipped a whopping 825 million pounds last month - a far cry from the 993 million pounds you sold in May. For your usual seasonal decline in production and an increase in Class I utilization, you will get a 30 cent increase over August and find a uniform price of $13.31 for September milk shipped to Order 2 handlers. OTHER REASONS It’s nice to give you credit for the increase, but there were a few other items that helped you to get the 30 cent increase that you should keep in mind. An important one was a 17 cent increase in your Class II Two new editors to join Pa. Holstein News STATE COLLEGE - To better serve Holstein breeders of Pennsylvania the Pennsylvania Holstein Association and the “Penn sylvania Holstein News” have begun a new chapter in their 24-year-old relation ship. Effective with the November issue, Penn sylvania Holstein Association staff members John Howard, Michael Weimer and Douglas Her shey have been named Field Editors of the News. As Field Editors the Holstein Association staff members will be writing reports of sales, shows and other Holstein activities Megan Connor, Patti Heilinger; Entomology - Sylvia Royer; Food Con servation & Safety - Megan Connor, Pat Heilinger, Bev Hale; Food Nutrition - Elizabeth Shiner, Michelle Noll, Megan Connor, Bev Hale: Food Preservation - Lori Reesor, Pat Heilinger; Forestry - Melissa Weaver, Sue Bomberger; Gardening - Sue Bomberger, Michelle Noll, Jodi Kreider, Melissa Weaver; Health - Michelle Noll, Loretta Noll, Beth Shiner. The Milk Check TOM JURCHAK County Agent price over August that came out of the 21 cent increase in the Minnesota-Wisconsin price between August and September. Taking that back another step - you got the M-W in crease from the increasing demand for butter, powder and cheese during Sep tember. This happened because buyers knew the support prices for these products would be increased on October 1 so they bought ahead. This increase in the M-W, which was the highest in six months, will be reflected in your Class I price in November. Getting back to September prices, you also had a five cent increase in Class I milk and a nine cent jump in your Louisville Plan pay back. So, putting them all together the increases in class prices and your Louisville Plan pay back provided about 20 cents of your 30 cent increase and the other 10 cents came from a better Class I utilization. Anyway, you’re heading in the right direction. Just remember that there are two ways to increase your blend price. One is by increasing Class I sales - which has its limits. And the other is by reducing production - which isn’t very popular. throughout the Keystone State. They will also be assisting breeders in the preparation of advertising and are available as advertising consultants. The addition of three editors living in Penn sylvania and working out of the State College office of the Pennsylvania Holstein Association is one of the most significant develop ments in news coverage since the magazine’s in ception in August 1956. The Pennsylvania Holstein News is published by the Holstein Friesian World, Inc.
