C36—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, July 12,1980 LANCASTER Seven Lancaster County young women have been chosen as candidates for the Lancaster County Poultry Queen Contest to be held on Friday, August 1 at 6:30 p.m. here in the Farm and Home Center Kathleen June 801 l is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elvin B. 8011, R 3, Elizabethtown. Kathy is a 1979 graduate of Lancaster Mennomte High School She is a member of the Elizabethtown Men nomte Church and active in their youth group. Her hobbies include playing piano, singing and riding bike. Kathy is presently em ployed as a receptionist - secretary at Wenger’s Feed Mill, Inc. She will be escorted by Arlen H. Keener. Lon Esbenshade, a senior at Conestoga Valley High School, is the daughter of Mr & Mrs. Robert Esben shade, 150 Bowman Road, Lancaster. Lon is a member of the field hockey and basketball teams. She also serves as treasurer of her junior class. Lon sings in the youth choir at Calvary Independent Church where she is active in the youth group. Together, the Esbenshade family operates a 100-acre dairy and poultry farm which includes 32 milking cows and 60,000 layer chickens. Lon helps in all aspects of the farm operation Lon is a member of the Red Rose Beef Club and has a steer project Some of her other interests are tennis, roller skating and snowmobihng Her future plans are to attend college, majoring in physical education. Debbie is a graduate of Solanco High School and helps in her father’s 25,000 chickenoperation. Debbie enjoys playing the clarinet, piano, tuba, and saxophone and has par ticipated in county, district and regional bands and county and district or chestras Kristina Kauffman Cathy Martin Debbie is a member at Little Bntian Presbyterian Church. Her hobbies, besides music, include swimming, sports and coaching a little league softball team. Her plans for the future are to attend Millersville State College to major in elementary education with a minor m music. Debbie will be escorted by Doug Her shberger. Kristina Kauffman, a June graduate of Elizabethtown Area High School, is the daughter of Mr & Mrs Kenneth Kauffman, Rl, Bambndge I c&M \i~ "^H’^ Heidi Miller Debra Vanderwende While attending school, Kris was active in business club, orchestra, powder puff football, and the publicity committee for the senior play. She also served as track statistician and student aid during her senior year. She is assistant secretary at Reichs’ Evangelical Congregation Church at present. Besides working as secretary at Farmer’s Mutual Insurance Company, Elizabethtown, Kns helps when needed in the family’s 159,000 broiler operation. Her hobbies include bike riding, reading, music and traveling. Her escort will be Tom Lytle Cathy Martin, 3409 W Pequea Lane, Gordonville, is the daughter of Mr & Mrs Ben Martin. A 1980 graduate of Pequea Valley High School, she is employed by Plain and Fancy Restaurant. As a student, Cathy was a cheerleader, member of the National Honor Society, chorus, stage band and band, Stage 772 and the yearbook staff.
