The Pennsylvania Junior Shorthorn Association was presented with the coveted Outstanding Club Award during the 13th Annual National Shorthorn Youth Conference, held here on June 12-15. This award was a sum ming up of the many first place honors this youth association from the Keystone State brought home. They took first place m the promotional contest with their newspaper and magazine advertisement layout. Their commercial cattleman’s motto “For calves that gam faster, put Shorthorns in your pasture”, also came m first Helping the Junior association on their way to victory were the third place points from the group’s scrapbook and purebred cattleman’s motto, and Sheila Peoples’ third place in the speech contest. Sheila and Jeanne Peoples, Volant, were the Pennsylvania delegates to the conference Joan Peoples attended as a non delegate. 'Decade of Direction’ was the theme of this year’s conference which featured business meetings and the election of. national officers, committee meetings and workshops on embryo transplants, artificial in semination, and records of performance, judging clinics and competition. One of the highlights for the conference youth came when they toured Torgenson Brothers Oak Hill Farm, Austin, Mn. and saw the ’infamous ‘Blue Ox’, along with some of his first calves.
