The only daughter of Mr and Mrs Clarence Sat tazahn, Womelsdorf, beamed with excitement She had entered the pageant under the encouragement and persuasion of her mother and a member on the dairy princess pageant committee without giving much tnought to the possibility of winning. However, Karen naturally possesses the necessary characteristics and en thusiasm needed to fill the position. She has always helped around her father’s farm as long as she can remember and has been actively in volved in dairy clubs since she became old enough to enter 4-H. Selected as Karen’s alternate during the pageant held at the Sheraton Berkshire Inn, was 21-year old Jamce Savidge She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Savidge, R 2 Mertz town Janice also displayed the natural charm and en thusiasm which is looked for in a dairy princess. During the evening program m which the young ladies were crowned, Jamce did a skit with her cow “Moo- Shme”, a life sized replica of a dairy cow created by the alternate princess herself Janice is a graduate of Brandywine High School and is presently employed by Caloric Corporation as a draftsperson. The Savidges are presently milking 50 cows and farming ap proximately 250 acres They also have 32 heifers and twenty steers Although never having shown dairy cattle personally, Janice has helped her brothers prepare for shows She became in terested in becoming a dairy princess after seeing other princesses at local events and because she feels the need to promote her family’s major commodity-MILK. Karen will be en tering her third year of college in September During the summer and on weekends while in school, Karen is employed on her family farm, Zahnheim Holstems. Her basic duties include milking, driving tractor, especially during hay season, feeding, and gardening. Karen has two younger brothers, Kevin, aged 17, and Kirk, 8 years old.
