Nancy Bennetch of Lebanon County was install ed as state treasurer during the business session Tuesday morning in the Farm Show complex. Mrs. Bennetch is the past assistant secretary to the state officers. She and her husband Marlin operate a registered Holstein dauy ing operation at R 2 Myerstown. One new state director was also elected to the executive board. Muriel Hostettler of Penn Run, Indiana County, is one of seven directors plus state officers that comprise the board heading up the ac tivities of the more than 4,000 members. Lancaster's Helen Hess of Mountville, state president, presided over the business session. Winner of the $3OO scholar ship award was Jean Jordon, R 2 Felton in York County. Miss Jordon is a sophomore at Indiana University of Pen nsylvania and a second year recipient of the scholarship which was established in 1960 as a memorial to the Society of Farm Women’s founder, Flora Black. The business meeting followed a day-long program of speakers and entertain- man, first vice-president, and Naomi Bupp, second vice-president. A special presentation of original jewelry was made to president Helen Hess by the Lancaster County Societies. Joy, 17552. Winner of the statewide “Something From Nothing” project was Dottie Dunkleberger of Society 17 in Cumberland County. Mrs. Dunkleberger’s first-place entry was a child’s dollhouse, with every one of the remarkably detailed fur nishings created from throwaway items. The house shell was fashioned from corrugated cardboard boxes, divided into several rooms. Intricate decorating features included foods in see-through cupboards, toothpick candle sconces on the walls, magazine racks complete with miniature magazines, a mousetrap and an outdoor privy complete with moon cutout on the door. Second place winner was the dried floral arrangement created by Ruth Kauffman, Lancaster County’s entry; and third place was won by Pauline Thomas of York County, with a miniature castle mghthght. Honorable mentions were awarded to Kathryn Thomas, Adams; Feme Culp, Berks; Florence Adams, Cambria; Ruth Whiteside, Chester, Mable Wyonda, Dauphin; Oliver Kerchner, Franklin; Denise Frey, Fulton; Ruth Minor, Greene; Elva Martin, Lebanon; and Jane Wosyki, Somerset. In honor of the Interna tional Year of the Child, a special youth creativity pro ject was sponsored by the youth committee, with 87 certificates presented for arts and crafts entries by children of Farm Women members. Next year’s competition will be ex panded to include grand children, and the 1981 project is projected to be open up even to greatgrandchildren of Socie ty members. A memorial service honored 64 deceased members from throughout the membership. A floral design created for the ser vice included a yellow mum for each of those who died during 1979, surrounded by an evergreen background with a red rose for each of the deceased state presidents. Tow members were honored for attaining the 90- year-old member status. Ef fie Ross, Cambria County, and Mildred Countryman, Somerset County, will each receive a special oval gold locket engraved with their initials as a token of honor from the state group.
