A34— Lancaster Farming, Saturday, January 12,1950 Polled Hereford breed champs chosen HARRISBURG - Frank Darcey’s Spring Bottom Farm of Fairfield, Adams County, exhibited “VH Westy Hilger,” a March- July female, to capture the grand and semor cham pionships in Polled Hereford judging competition. “DS Banner Beef,” a spring calf shown by Stockdale Hereford Farm of Dayton, Armstong County, won the grand and calf championships in the bull classes. The Farm also exhibted the reserve grand champion bull, “DS Victor,” a junior calf. Stockdale Farms, owned and operated by Dennis Stockdale, took a number of additional awards. Their March-July hiefer, “DS Miss Banner 669802,” was chosen as the reserve grand and senior champion. Both the heifer calf champion and the reserve heifer calf champion were shown by the Stockdale Hereford Farm. Dennis Stockdale has always owned a few Polled Herefords. In 1978, Dennis decided to improve the quality of his herd. At that time, he sold the marginal quality and has continued to improve the herd. Dennis’s top quality herd has led the Stockdale Hereford Farm to many show rings, including the Spring show in Missouri. The Stockdales brought only six head to this week’s show, four of which took championship placmgs. Order 4 set at ALEXANDRIA, VA - Middle Atlantic Order Market Administrator Joseph D. Shine Monday announced a Class I milk price of $14.12 per hun dredweight for February 1980. This price is up seven cents from January and is 74 cents higher then last February. Order No. 4 prices are announced for milk testing 3.5 percent butterfat, f.o.b. plants located within 55 miles of Philadelphia, PA and also within 75 miles from the nearer of Washington, DC or Baltimore, MD. There is also a 6-cent direct delivery differential ap plicable to producer milk received at plants located within 55 miles of Phildelphia. Shine announced a Class II milk price of $11.42 per hundredweight for December 1979 and a but terfat differential of 15.0 cents for the month. The Class n milk price is also up seven cents from the previous month These class pnces are based on the December 1979 Mumesota-Wisconsin man ufacturing milk price of GARBER OIL CO. Westy was sired by W. Windy Anxiety 125 of Montana. Her mother was Hilger Tn Arhne. Frank Darcey said, this was the last show for Westy. In other competition, “JDH Miss Leonard 77K,” a summer yearling owned by John P. Hausner of Dover, York County, captured the reserve junior female championship. Conewago Farms of Manchester, York County exhibited the senior champion while a junior yearling owned by Lowell Midla of Marnanna, Washington County took the show’s junior championship. The reserve senior champion was shown by AM- M O’Brien gf New Pans, Bedford County. Less Haller of Glemont, Ohio, judged the Polled Herefords. Following is a list of the show placmgs.
