Northumberland youth wins Star Farmer award HARRISBURG - An 18- year-old Northumberland County youth was named FFA State Star Farmer for 1980. Jeffery A. Martz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Byron A, Martz of Rl, Dalmatia, received the award at the Pennsylvania FFA’s 51st Mid-Winter Convention in the Forum of the Education Building, held here in con junction with the 64th Annual Pennsylvania State Farm Show. This is the highest agriculture award possible through the Pennsylvania Future Farmers of America. - Jeffery is a graduate of the Line Mountain High School and a member of the Mahantango FFA Chapter. He farms 85 acres of com and 22 acres of alfalfa, and Aas 38 head of milk cows and 43 heifers. He has been an auctioneer over the past 18 years. The State Association presented Lindley with a one-year membership, plaque, and a $2OO cash prize. Karry Pae, of Dauphin, took the second place honors. A Lancaster Countian, Larry Martin of Blue Ball, placed third m the state contest. The five judges were Ralph Horst, Marion, Pa.; Jerry Krawitz, N.J.; Bradley Rentzel, Mt. Wolf, Pa.; Marvin Eshleman, Lancaster and Burton Hoffman, Hagerstown, Md. They judged each con testant on his tact, microphone ability, speaking and bid calling ability, appearance and salesmanship. The con testants were also expected to be prompt.
