0 HARRISBURG - The grand champion Charolais bull, tagged during Wed nesday afternoon’s beef cattle competition, is a Lancaster County giant. The huge white bull, RDD Royal Jacquar, is currently co-owned by Walter Heistand, Manheim, and Royal Charolais Co., Youngwood. Heistand explained they bought the bull from Royal last Fall. He was familiar with the animal because it was being raised and shown by his son-in-law, Cliff Orley of Keystone Cattle Service. “I liked the looks of the bud, and when Cliff told me it was going up for sale at Royal’s fall consignment, I gave him a price to bid. I bought the bull ... it’s the most I’ve ever paid. The judge of the Charolais competition must have agreed with Heistand because he tagged the bull as junior and grand champion. The Heistands are adding the bull to their herd of 75 purebred Charolais. Up to this point, they have used primarily artificial in semination with their brood cows, but Mrs. Heistand said now they will be using the champ. She said Jacquar has taken four reserve cham pionships at major shows this past year. He will be travelling to Texas for the national Charolais show in February, and will be m Mississippi this month for the Dixie National, an all breed show. Jacquar, a bull that has not yet turned two years old, has a busy show road to travel for the Heistands. Although Royal Charolais has given up the grand champion bull, they are still the owner of the reserve grand champion and reserve junior champion bull, RCC Royal Commander, a spring yearling. They also exhibited the reserve calf champion bull, RCC Mr. Expectation, a spring bull calf. In the female classes. Royal captured the grand championship and the junior championship with their spring heifer, RCC Royal Temptress 2927.
