Gl4—Lancaster Fannins, Saturday, January 12, 1980 HARRISBURG Thomas M. Arnold, a consistent winner in Yorkshire swine shows both in Lebanon County and at previous Farm Shows, added another blue ribbon to his collection of hog honors. Arnolds Anna, shown by Thomas M. Arnold of Lebanon, and here displayed by Leon Arnold, was modern in design and sound of body-qualities that won her the Grand Championship. Early ag photo display set for January 17 FLEMINGTON, N.J. - Some 200 photos showing agriculture as it was in days gone by will be on display in the Hunterdon County Ex tension Center on Thursday, January 17. The exhibit, arranged by the History Committee of the Hunterdon County Board of Agriculture, will be open to all those interested from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7:30 to 9 p.m. These photos have been assembled from a variety of sources. Many came from individuals responding to an appeal for early farm and community pictures. Others were found in the files of local organizations, such as the Extension Service, the Flemmgton Fair Association, and local newspapers. These photos date back to the turn of the century, though, most are from the period, 1925 to 1950. All are part of an effort to pull together facts and pictures of farmers, their families, their farms and organizations, in developing a history of the Hunterdon County Board of Agriculture. The 11 month old February gilt was sired by RTB -6 Explorer, out of Arnolds count’ -wide agricultural board, it really becomes, to considerable degree, a history of the county itself, says Mrs. Melda Snyder, Pittstown, N.J. wife of one of Hunterdon’s most influential leaders, the late Clifford Snyder, long-time president of the Ag Board. The Board looks proudly back on its many ac complishments. It played significant roles m the founding of the first artifical breeding cooperative in the country, the county-wide fire zone system, the in troduction of the State Police in the county, the founding of the Hunterdon Medical Center, to name but a few. All are to be related in a book soon to be ready for the publisher. It has been some seven years m process so far, says Mrs. Snyder. “It’s really “THERMAL INSULATION SPECIALIST” 717-898-2760 Amila was sired by Mr. Real Kick. All of the sows were bred by the Arnolds on their farm. The Arnolds’ LeAnn Yorkshire operation been m the past two or two and a half years that we’ve seen progress...progress to the point that we can really believe there will be a history of the County Board... and soon,” she said. Spearheading the com mittee with Mrs. Snyder are Lloyd Wescott, Rosemont, and Ed Mack, editor of the “Hunterdon Democrat”. Others serving actively on the committee are; Ken Myers, Arthur Dan berry, William Mclntyre, Wesley Lance and Seeley Thomas. Assembling the photos and data, and writing the text is Lou Kovi, free-lance writer and native of Hunterdon. Kovi relates the story in interesting fashion.
