During the past year, the Lehigh County Livestock Clubs have worked together in many projects. In the Spring, the three clubs cooperated to conduct Penn State names farm specialist UNIVERSITY PARK - Gerald J. McCammon has been appointed to the Penn State extension service staff as an assistant Extension agent assigned to small and part time farming programs. i Thomas B. King, Penn State associate dean for extension, points out that McCammon is conducting agricultural production programs primarily in Blair, Bedford, and Cambria counties. He fills the vacancy on the extension service staff created by the resignation of Gordon D. Wiser. He is headquartered on the Penn State Altoona Campus. Wilderness areas in the U.S. were first set aside in 1937 on Indian reservations and in national forests. a multi-county livestock judging contest. During the Allentown Fair they operated a very popular petting zoo. These shared activities are coordinated by the 4-H Livestock Council, com- posed of the adult leaders and the presidents of the three clubs. The Swine Club’s market animal roudup was held at the Quakertown Livestock Market m August. The Beef and Sheep Clubs had their roundup during the 7 HOW Ii Eastern Pennsylvania Beef and Lamb Show and Sale at the Allentown Fairgrounds in November. Members from Bucks, Carbon, Montgomery, Northampton, and Schuylkill Counties also participated m that event. At this time some of the livestock members are looking forward to the Pennsylvania Farm Show m Harrisburg and most of them are making plans for their 1980 projects. A native of Wellsburg, West Virginia, McCammon received a bachelor of science degree from Penn State in 1956, majonng in animal science. Prior to his appointment to the Extension Service staff, he was employed as a claims adjuster, salesman, and field manager for a chemical company. McCammon is active m Bedford County 4-H ac tivities and is president of the Pennsylvania Southdown Association. He is married to the for mer Ida Barr, of Mt. Pleasant. They are the ammon parents of three children.
