The fed cattle trade followed an uneven pattern as the constant uncertainty of transportation facilities served to kindle an air of caution and bearishness. Marketings were of quite modest proportions in reflection of recent sharp price declines in addition to the transportation situation. Prices advanced sharply on a meager Monday run, but a portion of the early upturn was lost at midweek in a highly erratic trade. Buyers were quite selective on the late rounds; best demand centered on choice predominantly 3 yield grade steers and heifers in reflection of the wide price differential on yield grade 3 and 4 carcasses often amounting to 9.00-10.00 per cwt. Slaughter steers made up approximately 47 pet. and heifers 36 pet. with a liberal percentage choice included. Cows contributed 13 pet., feeders only 3 pet.
