—Lancaster Firming, Saturday, April 7,1979 12 Livestock Omaha Cattle April 5,1979 Closing prices on slaughter steers and heifers were 2.00-2.50 higher. Cows were .50-1.00 lower, and bulls weak to 1.00 lower. Fleshy two-way feeder steers were 2.00-2.50 higher. Fed cattle prices advanc ed sharply the fore part of the week in somewhat of a forced trade as yet another weekend storm curtailed livestock movement. Most slaughterers came into the period in need of cattle to meet immediate minimum slaughter requirements; however, most interests were rather selective and were not aggressive for numbers beyond immediate needs in view of the un favorable cut-out ratio. Slaughter under federal in spection was still of moderate proportions, but demand was still reported light to moderate. Slaughter steers made up approx imately 39 pet. and heifers 35 percent. Cows comprised 11 percent and feeders 14 per cent. STEERS: Three loads Choice with end Prime predominately 3 1250-1262 lbs. 74.50, load 34 1267 lbs. 73.50 early.
