t—Lancaster Famine, Saturday, March 10, IS7S V Livestoc Omaha Cattle March 8,1979 Cattle - Compared Previous Week’s Close Closing prices on slaughter steers and heifers 2.50-3.00 higher. Cows firm to 50 cents higher than late previous week and bulls firm. Fed cattle prices advanc ed sharply on an 1150 head Monday run as weekend snow and ice storms virtual ly paralyzed livestock move ment. The early upturn was generally .maintained on later sessions as road condi tions improved and supplies expanded. However, most buying interests were selec tive on the late rounds and were competitive only for immediate requirements. Carcass prices also advance sharply but there too de mand was at times of a restricted nature. Feeder buyers were again quite ag gressive for two-way steers suitable for , further finish and some 2100 head were returned to the feedlots. Much of the steer and heifer supply was good to average choice and mud was a prevalent condition. Steers made up approximately 35 per cent, heifers 28 per cent, cows 10 per cent and feeders 26 per cent. STEERS: Seven loads and part load choice and prime 34 1138-1292 lbs. 70.75-71.00.
