—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, January 27,1979 10 E EDITORIAL COMMENTS By DIETER KRIEG, EDITOR [ Are you ready for a second farm show? If there’s any such thing as Winter doldrums among farm families, those inflicted with that condition will be challenged to do something about it come March 8 That’s the date of Farmers’ Fun Night, an event during which farm girls, boys, women, and men can compete, laugh, and just plain whoop it up for a few hours. The entire affair will have the blessings of the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Anyone interested m being a participant in the event might want to contact either The Department of Agriculture, 2301 North Cameron St Harrisburg, The Pennsylvania Farmers Association, 510 S 31st Street, Camp Hill; The Pennsylvania State Grange, 1604 North Second Street, Harrisburg, The Pennsylvania Farmers Union, 240 North Third Street, Harrisburg, The Pennsylvania Farmer magazine, Box 3665, Harrisburg, or Lancaster Farming newspaper, Box 366, Lititz All are helping in the olannmg and organization of Farmer's Fun Night Farmers’ Fun Night will feature TUC A When I was a teenager in 1 " £ rp) r> fe) youtll cam P> we used to sing \\ 'cl [J pjj LJ /AM a simple, yet beautiful song cpfMtfJtjM that goes like this Got anj rivers \ou think ~W--A uncrossable ,; * H * /] Got am mountains mi - > "i can't tunnel though - ’ "*^ TSTT God specializes m thing-, thought possible GOD'S SPECIALTY, 1 He ’ JI do for > OJ »h*t no I other power can do' Mam times when I have i I essontor lan'irin 2S 1974 - Bafk 'rofiKi ScT'Dr iT- ' NJ' ;nr u v li i _ - trit .3! j l 'lo I D’ < '(-“nlei 1)’ Lurnet'i, the iii'W :.n cilalt at oilJt r ee l <-‘" '■ M’ . 1 tf'c L f shuuJc 1- now Atl H hi 'O'. Once all that’s over, the floor will be open for square dancing. There is no charge to enter. Just come prepared to have fun, and dress properly for the occasion There is some talk of fining those folks who dare to show up anything other than genuine farm clothes The entire affair is just a part of a new 3- day farm show which is designed to supplement the original Farm Show, which has taken place annually for the past 63 years The new show, which is to get underway March 8, 9 and 10, will be an exhibition of machinery, with added highlights such as Farmers’ Fun Night, a highly competitive horse pulling contest, and an equipment auction According to former Penn sylvania Secretary of Agriculture Kent Shelhamer, who initiated the idea, the new show will allow visiting farmers to see a vast part of Penn sylvania’s agribusiness which can’t Come. It is hoped by some that if the March show is a big success, it can be used to alleviate some of the growing pains of the January Farm Show There is a possibility that the March exhibition may eventually overtake many of the commercial aspects of the January show If that’s the case, then that may allow the original Farm Show to expand with its emphasis on animal agriculture Pennsylvania’s agricultural community holds the power of Jewish exile who had risen to a prominent position in the service of Cyrus, the Persian king, Nehermah nad secured permission tc return to Jerusalem to try and restore the once-greal city Having f jll\ inspected the ruined walls, Nehermah called together the people and pul to them what must base seemed an impossible challenge “Come let us bndd the wall of Jerusalem, P xi we may no longc suffer at ' Nebem’an 2 I ~' Ni> ,<” a 1 feirrii'i m<v wil t! n > i. If potential exhibitors refuse to go along with the idea, then the show can’t be held. If farmers and their friends don’t feel like going to the show in March, then the concept might very well be abandoned But for 1979, at least, the March exhibition is for real. Despite the fact that a number of major manufac turers won’t take part in the show this year, most of the exhibit space has been sold There is reason to believe that the exhibition will be a success, unless bad weather in terferes or farm families show little interest The organizers of Night would like to have some idea * on how much participation can be expected So, if you might want to enter one or more of the contests, please let someone know Jerusalemites to co-operate and take turns in guarding and rebuilding Nehemiah made the most of what was available and by the power of Qod, it was enough' “So we built the wall For the peoole had a mind to (3 6) * Pianst Arthur Rubenstem, when , invited to attend church'one weekend in New York Cit> '•polled ‘ Yes if von v'ill u’.p nu t< heai a pnvu nei v, o v. ill me to ao tV m.Dossible" Fiat ■ u r *tV hmh io* do V 1011,.
