The t vo young men travel around the state for tractor pulls, estimating that they have travelled to about 30 of them this year. Vogel, 18 years old, has a 427 Chevy engine powered tractor called the Clodhopper which he uses in the 7000 Modified class. He got started by travelling to fairs to see tractor pulls and “does it for fun”. Zahn, who uses a FarmaU 400 powered by two 427 Chevy engines that is called the Orange Squeezer, has been involved in tractor pulling for three years. He thought tractor pulling appeals to everyone, being the heaviest sport on wheels, “It’s a growing sport,” he noted. “The crowds just grow and grow.” There were eight classes held at the Buck stadium between the two nights of competition. In the 9000 Modified, Ron Bickel, from Versailles, Ohio, took first place with is Massey Ferguson 55, powered by an Allison air craft engine and pulling 250 feet, three inches. Dennis Wilson, Greenville, Ohio, and his Cockshutt E 4, with a 427 Ford engine, won the 7000 Modified, with a pull of 272 feet, three inches. Danny Dean, South Charleston, Ohio, with an International 1066 won both the 9000 Super Stock and the 12,000'Super Stock. In the 9000 Super Stock, he pulled 258 feet, six inches; and* in the 12,000 Super Stock, he made two free pulls. In the 7000 Super Stock, Harry Savage, Monrovia, • Chicken House • Turkey House • Farrowing House • or Any Other House For Maryland, took his John Deere 4010 to the top of the class with a pull of 290 feet, four inches. Wayne Ross, Concord, New Hampshire, took the 5000 Modified, with his Oliver 1650 powered by a 454 Chevy engine. He had a full pull followed by a pull of 241 feet, five inches. In the 5000 Super Stock, Tim Stauffer, Ephrata, with his Deutz 8006, won the class pulling a total of 269 feet, six inches. And in the 12,000 Unlimited Class, John Shaul, Fultonham, New York, with his Cockshutt, powered by an Allison aircraft engine won the class by making a full pull, the only one in the class.
