Auction by VERA W. MARTIN 717-738-1843 Auction conducted by- John E. and Paul E. Martin, Auctioneers 717-733-3511 - 717-733-3305 FOOD AT AUCTION The mission delegates learned that India is em phasizing expanded production of soybeans for protein and safflower and rapeseed for oil. They ob served that India is rapidly approaching a degree of food self sufficiency not known through most of its history. Mission members were told by Indian officials that the country’s 70 million farmers can never take advantage of the huge, ef ficient and sophisticated farming equipment available in the U.S. because Indian laws limit the size of each farm to a miximum of 18 acres. The average farm in India is five acres. For that reason, officials said India should continue to be a growing cash market for American farm products. 147
