Deadline for submission of applications is April 15,1978. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Flor ida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas are heavily infested with fire ants. Importers and. breeders are invited to submit ap plications for these permits to the above address. Dr. Pierre A. Chaloux, APHIS deputy ad ministrator, said the early deadline for applications is necessary to determine the number of animals to be imported so that sound management plans can be made for this first shipment. Federal regulations originally had set a deadline 15 days before the date of the drawing. Early submission of ap- the earlier edition were completely exhausted. NCEN commissioned the original edition for distribution to government decision makers and key industry leaders. Industry demand, both in the U.S. and plications will not .be required for subsequent lots of cattle imported through the facility, when officials can predict more accurately the level at which the center will operate.
