Closing prices on slaughter steers were 50c. higher than late the previous week, instances 75c. higher, and heifers were mostly 25c. higher. Marketings were moderately reduced from the previous week,' and the declines enforced on steers following the Christmas hol day were fully recovered. Demand was generally good even in the face of a slow moving carcass trade through midweek although best inquiry usually cen tered on choice and prime relatively free of mud. The run included a fair per centage choice steers and heifers and several loads choice and prime; mud was again a rather' prevalent condition and was at times a major price determining factor.
