Trap season starts Nov. 6 HARRISBURG - Penn sylvanians are reminded by the Game Commission that the trapping season for skunks, opossums, racoons, foxes and weasels will begin on November 6. Trapping begins on the first day of the season at 7 a.m. The opening date for trapping mink and muskrat will be on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 24. The MCMP District No. 8 includes all of Franklin County and has about 50 member-producers. The representative on the MCMP Board of Directors for District No. 8 is Dice Statler, Ghambersburg, R 6. Field representative is Jay Waybright, Littlestown, Pa. The Maryland Cooperative Milk Producers, Inc. is the largest Maryland based dairy cooperative representing over 1,000 dairy farmers in Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. Upwards of 700,000 fur bearers are expected to be trapped during the up coming seasons. During the 1975-76 marketing year a record $4.1 million went to Pennsylvania trappers for skins purchased by dealers in the state. Pelts for furbearers are usuallly prime by early November, and with populations and pnces being as high as they are, 'there should be plenty of trapping activity prior to the end of the season for skunks, opossums, raccoons, foxes and weasels on January 31.
