—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, July 16, 1977 16 Lebanon Co. holds 4-H dress revue By JOANNE SPAHR LEBANON, Pa.—Eleven young, but accomplished seamstresses from Lebanon County were chosen to go onto regional 4-H sewing competition last Thursday evening when Lebanon County held its 4-H dress revue in Boscov’s Auditorium in the Lebanon Valley Mall. Fifty-two girls took part in the half-day event which began at 1 p.m. and climaxed with the naming of this year’s win ners in the junior and senior divisions. These girls will now head to Camp Hill on July 21 to match their sewing talents against seamstresses from eight other counties in the Capitol Region. Out of a field of 16 in the senior division, eight girls were chosen to go onto regionals. Those girls were; Amy Balsbaugh, Myer stown; Wendy Bowman, Palmyra; Dorothy Bemesderfer, Lebanon; Nancy Hadley, Palmyra; Holly Kneasel, Lebanon; Rosella Krall, Lebanon; Lenore Kreiser, Annville; and Lisa Yordy, Camp belltown. Amy Balsbaugh is a 15- year-old member of the Myerstown 4-H raiders, in which she has been a member for six years. Miss Balsbaugh created a floor length peasant-look dress of soft-flowing polyester knit. The dress featured three different fabrics of blue and white print in the empire bodice, as well as elbow length puffed sleeves. Wendy Bowman has been a member of the 4-H Palms sewing club for six years. The 16-year old seamstress created a Summer outfit of batiste eyelet. Her A-line skirt was gathered in the front and back to a shaped yoke, and topped off with a self-ruffle at the bottom. Miss Bemesderfer, an 18-year-old member of the Norsolebco 4- H Club has been sewing for 10 years. Her jacket featured princess styling with a notched collar. Nancy Hadley, 18, from Palmyra, created a qiana nylon double knit dress as her project in the 4-H Palms, this year. A matching unlined "jacket with top stitched collar, patch pockets, and full-length sleeves completed the outfit. The only jacket outfit chosen to go to regionals from Lebanon County was made by Holly Kneasel, a 15- year-old member of the Norsolebco 4-H club. Miss Kneasel’s wrap around jacket featured a hood and was constructed of green corduroy, a cotton plaid fabric of red, green, and blue in both quilted and unquilted versions, and a red cotton blend. 'Miss 'Kneasel has been sewing for five years. Rosella Krall of the South Lebanon 4-H club created a two-piece outfit consisting of a gabardine skirt with buttons down the front and a single knit long-sleeved shirt of orange and several shades of green. Miss Krall at age 14 has been sewing with the club for three years. Lenore Kreiser, 19, from the Annville Little Dutchmen 4-H Club created a four-piece suit. The jacket, pants, and vest were created from a light grey wool blend. The lined jacket featured top stitching, princess seaming, front button closing, a not ched collar, set in sleeves, and pockets. Miss Yordy, age 16, hails from Campbelltown 4- H where she has been a member for eight years. Her peasant-style dress featured princess styling with ruffles and lace in die place of sleeves. An empire waistline was accented by a self-belt. In the junior division, three girls were chosen to go onto regional competition. The fabric Miss Connor chose was a red, white, and blue plaid. A mint green Calcutta cloth jumpsuit made by Lori Reeser, 12, of the Avon-East Lebanon 4-H Club won her the right to attend regional competition. The jumpsuit featured an elasticized waist, long sleeves, patch pockets, and a turn back collar. The blouse featured a pocket in addition to cuffed short sleeves, a V-neck and a turn back collar. Five other winners were chosen as semi-finalists for the junior division.
