Such chemicals are found in rodenticides, insecticides, lead-based paints, gasoline products and antifreeze, say experts from the Penn State Extension Service. The more common agents in these chemical formulations include lead-ethylene glycol, and organophosphate- com pounds - to mention a few, say veterinary toxicologist. Many rat poisons (rodenticides) contain agents that interfere with the blood clotting mechanism, causing an animal to die from excessive hemorrhage. Such agents can be responsible for chronic poisoning symptions WHAT'S NEW RABBIT BOOK LOS ANGELES - “Babbits - An Albers Plan for Raising Rabbits”, recently revised, is now available from Albers Milling Company, division of Carnation Company. This 25- page booklet describes various rabbit feed programs for profitable rabbit production. Included are methods for selecting foundation stock and steps to getting off to a good start. Also considered are some standard breeds and varieties of rabbits along with suggestions for including vomiting, weakness, chronic diarrhea, and loss of hair. Dogs may lick ethylene glycol; a common ingredient of permanent antifreeze, from garage floors and carelessly placed containers. Pets that chew on or lick fences and plaster walls coated with lead-based paints are candidates for lead poisoning. Other commonly found chemical-poisoning agents include amphetamine compounds, arsenical agents, strychnine, and some kerosene products. Calling a veterinarian is the first step to be taken in chemical-poisoning treat ment because there may not be enough time to get the animal to veterinary herd replacement program. Page 22-25 list “8 Steps to Help Prevent Disease in the Babbitry.” Additionally, the 17 most common rabbit diseases are catalogued in terms of their external and internal symptoms, cause, prevention and treatment. The best advice for pet owners is to prevent, poisonings in the first place. If you are aware that a chemical can harm your pet, clean it up when it is spilled, or store it out of your pet’s reach. A little caution can prevent a great deal of pain for your pet and anxiety and expense for you. Weaver, Inc. will begin immediately to construct a new 4 million dollar product and warehousing facility located at the New Holland complex, it was announced earlier this month. The new 85,000 square foot facility, designed by the Weaver Engineering Department, will be located on a six acre tract of land along South Custer Avenue and Philip Road. The building will be constructed of steel frame with masonry exterior and precast concrete tees.
