New Holland Feeder Pig Lancaster Feeder Pigs Thursday April 28,1977 Omaha Cattle April 28,1977 Weekly 51 cattle -- compared with the previous week’s close— Prices on slaughter steers and heifers advanced 2.00- 2.75 under a generally good demand but closing trade weak. Cows were 1.00-1.50 lower. Bulls firm to 50 cents higher. Four day receipts 19,300 as compared 18,400 previous week and 17,200 a year ago. The sharp upward price spiral on steers and heifers was extended into the third successive week with current price levels the highest since early May 1976. Most interests came into the week in need of cattle to be slaughtered outside the immediate Omaha area. The upturn in slaughter prices eliminated much of the inquiry for fleshy two-way feeder steers. Supplies were slightly larger than the previous week despite the press of field work, but were quite well distributed over the trading period. The upturn in live cattle prices was supported by a corresponding advance in carcass quotations through midweek.
