Looking at long term trends, the 1976 export figures got Maryland tobacco about up to its 1969- 1973 averages of 10.3 million pounds per year, worth $lO million. The poundage increases indicate foreign buyers are returning to the market, and this, I hope, will continue this year for the 1976 crop.” “As any grower knows, export interrat in Maryland tobacco is a key to the price they will receive, and tobacco, particularly Type -32, is an expensive crop to raise.” “We have a good crop to sell this year, about 28 million pounds.
