The three are: John Moore, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn Moore of Chambersburg; Alan Frantz, 16, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Frantz of Waynesboro; and David Mummert, 15, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Mummert of Chambersburg. The three were cited for their achievements with Guernsey cattle, particularly in the show ring. Moore has a grand champion animal to his 10% MORE DIGESTIBLE NUTRIENTS” Z'P Guernsey breeders honor three youths credit in the Southcentral Pennsylvania District FFA Dairy Show, and says showing cattle is what he likes best about dairy farming. His present FFA projects include 10 milk cows and three heifers. His family owns 55 head of dairy cattle, of which a third are Guernseys. A part of the young man’s philosophy is that the fanner should make a greater effort to keep in touch with the public to tell his story. The adverse publicity on radiation contaminating milk is one example he cited where the farmer could and should take the initiative to see that all the facts are presented. Frantz told Lancaster Farming during a recent interview that he prefers farming to any other job possibility because he likes to be his own boss. He is currently president of his 4-H club and vice president of his FFA chapter. His family owns 20 Guernseys.
