The 51st such event to take place in the County, the program brought together scores of people from rural and town areas. The Mechamcsburg Area Chamber of Commerce sponsors the event. The award is given annually “to the member of the Cumberland County Baby Beef Club whose ac tivities best exemplify the high ideals of integrity, leadership, and citizenship to which the late Senator Wade dedicated his life.” A Great Combination From ... Cumberland County 4-H Baby Beef Club Miss Long is a 7-year 4-H member who has gone to the State Farm Show three years. She lives with her parents on a beef and hog farm. Betty Deitch of Carlisle R 5 received a tall trophy for the tall job she did last year with her steer “Travis.” She showed the animal to county grand champion honors. Her grand champion steer came from a farm in Kentucky, the 16-year old Miss Deitch told Lancaster Farming. She hves on a dairy farm and would like to be a secretary Bret Ritter, 18, hails from a dairy farm m the Boiling Springs area. Active in 4-H for a number of years, the tall youth has been suc cessful with both beef and dairy projects. At Thursday night’s banquet, he was given a trophy for having had the reserve grand champion steer in Cum berland County last year. The animal, named “Buck,” came from Montana. Bret has a career as a dairy farmer in mind.
