4-H riders gallop to success LANCASTER - Lancaster County’s 4-H horse enthusiasts held their annual recognition banquet here at the Farm and Home Center last Saturday evening, with many of them capturing recognition awards. Attended by 231 club mem bers, parents, leaders, and guests, the program also cited club leaders for exemplary guidance. First to receive awards were the state 4-H Horse Show winners: Natalie Immel of the Broken Bit Club was first in grooming and showmanship in the senior division, and placed second in Western pleasure horses. Doug Fellenbaum of the Boots and Saddles Club was cited for his third-place finish in western pleasure ponies. Both participants were given plaques by Robert Gregory of Pennfield Feeds Corporation. Gregory also serves as a leader to the Broken Bit Club. Ray Carmean of the Boots and Saddles Club placed first in the state competition in pole bending, followed by Mike McCall of the Silver Spurs Club. Dick Stein, representing the John W. Eshleman and Son Company, presented the awards. Carol Stinson of the Rough Riders Club received a plaque sponsored by the Ross H. Rohrer Company of QuarryviUe. Miss Stinson had an eighth place in hunter ponies under saddle in the state contest. Debbie Huber, of the Bit and Bradoon Club, received a plaque from Randy Herr, who represented the Rough Riders 4-H Club. Miss Huber had placed second in saddle seat equitation. Two fifth places - one each in the senior division saddle seat equitation and saddle seat pleasure ponies - were 'won by Leslie Sherman of the Broken Bit 4-H Club. She received a plaque sponsored by the Boots and Saddles 4-H Club and given by members Patty Groff and Terry Miller. The pair also recognized Stephanie Kurtz of the Sequoia Riders Club who earned her plaque as a result of a third place in pleasure driving ponies competition. , The Lancaster County Horse Judging Team, coached by Robert Gregory and Carol Henkel, was recognized for its performance in the state contest.
